The Good News: The sinister winter surge is over.
The Bad News: At this point even in a non-surge situation, our new cases per day is equal to last summer’s second surge.
The Ugly We may have one more big surge before widespread vaccine distribution defeats the virus, aided by no less than five new variants, including two new variants that appear to have originated in the USA. Besides the UK strain (more virulent), South African strain (reduced vaccine effectiveness), and Brazil strain (reduced vaccine effectiveness), we have in the California Strain (which is responsible for California putting up such massive Covid numbers in December and January) which may be both more virulent and more lethal, along with the New York Strain which may be both more virulent and more resistant to vaccines.
