It’s hot, and I have (vaccinated) out-of-state family coming.
Now I don’t have the heat wave the west coast is having, but we are looking at 90’s and humid right through the weekend. So I figure there’s two great reasons to research frozen cocktails right there, because what more could you want with your family hanging out than lots of booze?
Well, actually I have to furnish non-alcoholic options as well, so I guess that’s just more for the hostess, amirite?
There will be an icy cooler of beer on the patio to start with, so the blender will be brought out of storage and the ice maker will have its work cut out for it.
While there will be plenty of iced tea in the fridge, I found this to make it more interesting: Bourbon Slush Punch
In a pitcher with one cup of tea, add
1 cup bourbon
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups orange juice (about 3 well-squeezed oranges)
6 tablespoons lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
Keep refrigerated until ready to blend with about 5 cups of ice, and garnish with mint or lemon slices
What about Sangria Margaritas?
You’ll need an easy frozen margarita:
One can of frozen limeade, dumped in the blender. Fill the can half with tequila, and half with Triple Sec, then dump in the blender. Add another can full of ice. Blend then blend again.
Next is frozen sangria cubes — freeze a cup of red wine in an ice cube tray.
Use the frozen cubes to puree with 2 Tablespoons Triple Sec, 1 Tablespoon fresh lime juice, and the juice of half an orange.
Salt the rim of a glass, add the frozen margarita mix, and swirl in the sangria blend.
And one for the guys: Guinness Chocolate Float
In a pint glass, scoop one cup of premium chocolate ice cream. Drizzle with chocolate syrup. Slowly pour the Guinness over the top. Serve with a straw.
So keep your cool everyone, grab your blender and your imagination — hope I’ve inspired you to try something frothy this Friday. It’s the weekend, and it’s 5:00 somewhere! Cheers!!
