What Would You Do Wednesday? The Critical Race Theory

At News Views, we’re always trying something to get y’all out here talking. This week, I’ve presented an issue that has Wing Nut World in a major dither: The Critical Race Theory (CRT). Numerous RED States now want to ban teaching the theory in our public schools, which it really isn’t, and literally ‘white’ wash US History to gloss over the fact that our country has had major race related issues since its formation.

So, what exactly is CRT?

  • Critical Race Theory, or CRT, is a theoretical and interpretive mode that examines the appearance of race and racism across dominant cultural modes of expression. In adopting this approach, CRT scholars attempt to understand how victims of systemic racism are affected by cultural perceptions of race and how they are able to represent themselves to counter prejudice.

The Washington Post recently ran an article on CRT. This is how they define the theory:

  • Critical race theory is an academic framework centered on the idea that racism is systemic, and not just demonstrated by individual people with prejudices. The theory holds that racial inequality is woven into legal systems and negatively affects people of color in their schools, doctors’ offices, the criminal justice system and countless other parts of life.

Currently, teaching the real history of our country has come under attack and fueled by right wing media who claims that by teaching systemic racism and the 1619 Project in our public schools, we’re indoctrinating our kids and somehow teaching them to hate white people and our country.

Do you believe that we should teach our kids real US History and focus not only how great our nation is but the parts of history that discriminated against races and numerous ethnicities? Should we include in our curriculum how each race and ethnicity contributed to the building of our nation? Why are Wing Nuts so afraid that our kids might learn the real history of our country? And equally important, should we start paying more attention to and do our research when electing people to our local schoolboards?

So, your task, as the intelligent lot you are, is to discuss the dilemma. Answer any and all questions you want but share your ideas with your fellow News Viewers. Feel free to share your thoughts on the rise of Domestic Terrorism and other ways we can curb it.

Hope you enjoy- Please understand that this is not a free chat thread. Please post to the topic; share your ideas, answer the questions I asked, and offer up any solutions/ideas, etc. you may have.
