It’s dark this fine Monday morning — you know that’s just wrong, twisted and wrong. This isn’t Daylight Saving Time, it’s more like Dark Morning of the Soul or Hello Darkness, My Old Friend…

Of course, it’s lighter in the afternoon and evening, so we can run more errands and buy more stuff……This is where we find ourselves this first full day of Daylight Saving Time — biological creatures going round in circles, hanging on to the mechanical hands of analog clocks. Around and around and around, we try to make time speed up or slow down or once in a while, just stop . .

As it happens, in a week we experience the Vernal Equinox, or Spring Equinox. During the March equinox, the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere receive roughly equal amounts of sunlight; neither hemisphere is tilted more toward or away from the Sun than the other.

Equinoxes are the only two times each year that the Sun rises due east and sets due west for all of us on Earth…..

The word equinox comes from the Latin words for “equal night”—aequus (equal) and nox (night). On the equinox, the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world.

Balance

We superimpose clocks, schedules, on our days, but I’m thinking that the balance of light, dark, seasons, eras and epochs, of growth, death and rebirth, suits our biological selves in a primal way.

Speaking of balancing life by way of the sun, moon and stars, I love the example of one of the pyramids at Chichén Itzá on the Yucatán— the Mayans allegedly positioned this pyramid in relation to the sun to reflect in shadow their snake deity going down and up. This may not be true but is alleged,— you can see in the shadow the god Kukulkan — it shows up around Equinox— and a couple of weeks before and after,

With all that’s happening in the world and in our world, the comfort that comes with looking up, and the perspective we gain from standing still during the equinox or solstice, thinking about the way the sun, moon and planets move rhythmically and timelessly regardless of our drama, —that is good medicine.

Let’s talk about any and all — this is free chat and you know what to do. Happy Monday all— <3
