DATELINE: PUTNAM COUNTY, WV — A West Virginia woman is facing animal cruelty charges after police say she killed her boyfriend’s pet gecko by placing it in the garbage disposal after he changed his mind about having sex with her.
Police responded to an anonymous 911 call Wednesday about a domestic disturbance in Hurricane, West Virginia, and upon their arrival, they spoke with a man who said that he had been hit with a curtain rod by his girlfriend, 19-year-old Hannah Jones, as reported by The Smoking Gun.
According to a criminal complaint, the man told police that he and Jones “were going to have sex when they got home but it did not work out as planned.” This progressed to a “verbal argument,” during which the man said he called Jones a “slut.”
Jones, then struck the man twice with a curtain rod, leaving him with a knot and laceration on his forearm.
Questioned about the confrontation, Jones confessed to hitting the man, adding that she threw flower pots, busted a fish tank, and turned on another apartment dweller.
“She further stated that she also took the pet gecko they had and put it in the garbage disposal and turned it on, shredding the pet gecko to pieces,” reported a Hurricane Police Department officer.
Jones was charged with felony animal cruelty and domestic battery, a misdemeanor.
