Moments before Donald Trump was scheduled to take the stage at the National Association of Black Journalists convention on Wednesday, the association’s president was called back stage to address a problem.
Donald did not want to be fact-checked live and was refusing to go on stage, according to NABJ president Ken Lemon.
‘Well, can you not fact check? He’s not going to take the stage if you fact-check,'” Lemon said he was told by the Trump team.
The interview was delayed for more than an hour before Donald finally took the stage with ABC News correspondent Rachel Scott, Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner and Semafor reporter Kadia Goba.
Donald blamed audio problems for the delay.
“There were audio problems, but they were resolved very quickly,” Lemon explained. “The bigger problem was his threat not to take the stage when he had agreed to go on. He did not want to be fact-checked, but we could not let him on the stage without fact-checking.”
Lemon said he was preparing a statement to deliver to an audience of 2,000 that Donald would not take the stage because he refused to be fact-checked.
It was then that Donald walked onto the stage.
