On Tuesday Ohio state Rep. Josh Williams introduced a bill, officially known as the O.H.I.O. Sportsmanship Act, that would classify flag planting at Ohio Stadium around Buckeyes football games as a felony.
The bill comes in response to a brawl that happened in Ohio Stadium on November 30, following a defeat from Ohio State University Buckeyes’ primary rival, the University of Michigan Wolverines.
The proposal was even mocked by one of the worst MAGAt trolls on X, Gunther Eagleman.
Williams’ bill states, “No person shall plant a flagpole with a flag attached to it in the center of the football field at Ohio stadium of the Ohio State University on the day of a college football competition, whether before, during, or after the competition. Whoever violates this section is guilty of a felony of the fifth degree.”
What prompted the bill was a melee that involved players on both sides brawling, throwing punches, and police dispersing pepper spray because a Block M flag was brought to midfield to celebrate Michigan’s victory.
Michigan’s win was its fourth straight over Ohio State, though this was the most shocking, with the Wolverines (7-5) coming in as nearly three-touchdown underdogs and the Buckeyes (10-2), even with the loss, are heading to the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State coach Ryan Day stood by and watched.
And like any good rivalry, both sides were participants in the seasonal trolling.
The Big Ten fined both teams $100,000 each, but Ohio lawmaker Josh Williams thinks it’s not enough punishment for the hurt Ohio State suffered.
