Punchbowl News’ Jake Sherman reported on Thursday that Donald Trump called Milwaukee a “horrible city” during the MAGA “pep rally” with House Republicans, and Wisconsin has responded appropriately.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, while previously embracing the economic boom the coming Republican convention will bring his “horrible” city, had additional thoughts.
Milwaukee’s congressional Rep. Gwen Moore referred to the convicted felon and his sentencing on July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
“Once he’s settled in with his parole officer, I am certain he will discover that Milwaukee is a wonderful, vibrant and welcoming city full of diverse neighborhoods and a thriving business community,” Moore said.
Of course, a Trump campaign spokesperson called the Sherman post “wrong and “total bullshit.”
Trump himself “clarified” with Fox News.
“It was very clear what I meant. I said, we’re very concerned with crime. I love Milwaukee, I have great friends in Milwaukee, but it’s as you know, the crime numbers are terrible. We have to be very careful. But I was referring to also the election, the the ballots, the, the way it went down, it was very bad in Milwaukee. Very, very bad,” he said. “Most Democrat-run cities, almost all of them have problems. But but they also have a problem with votes.”
The Democratic National Committee has committed to posting at least 10 billboards across Milwaukee today.
