Brayden Harrington, 13, on meeting Joe: “A few months ago I met him in New Hampshire,” Brayden said. “He told me that we were members of the same club. We stutter.” Brayden then went on to show the audience how Joe gave him some of the tips that helped him back in the day. “We all want the world to feel better,” Brayden said. “We need the world to feel better.”
And from the “I wonder if the Obamas know how much they are missed?” Files, Michelle Obama said, “Being president doesn’t change who you are, it reveals who you are … a presidential election can reveal who we are, too.”
Former President Obama, framed by the Constitution, said: “Donald Trump hasn’t grown into the job because he can’t. And the consequences of that failure are severe. 170,000 Americans dead. Millions of jobs gone while those at the top take in more than ever. Our worst impulses unleashed, our proud reputation around the world badly diminished, and our democratic institutions threatened like never before.”
Said Senator Amy Klobuchar: “The president may hate the post office, but he’s still going to have to send a change of address card come January.”
From Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, we heard: “President Donald Trump didn’t create the division in the country. Division “created Trump.”
And Nominee Joe Biden addressed a catalyst for that division by saying: “And while I’ll be a Democratic candidate, I will be an American president. I’ll work hard for those who didn’t support me, as hard for them as I did for those who did vote for me.”
“We’ll stand for those who cook and serve and clean; said New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, “those who plant and harvest; who pack and always deliver, whose hands are thick with calluses, like my granddad’s who held mine when I was a boy.”
From former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg we heard: “Just over 10 years ago, I joined a military where firing me because of who I am wasn’t just possible — it was policy. Now in 2020, it is unlawful in America to fire anyone because of who they are or who they love. The very ring on my finger … reflects how this country can change.”
Julie Louis Dreyfus told us: “Just remember, Joe Biden goes to church so regularly that he doesn’t even need tear gas and a bunch of federalized troops to help him get there.”
And Kamala Harris, called Momala by her kids, said: “My mother taught me that service to others gives life purpose and meaning. And oh, how I wish she were here tonight, but I know she’s looking down on me from above. I keep thinking about that 25-year-old Indian woman—all of five feet tall—who gave birth to me at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland, California. On that day, she probably could have never imagined that I would be standing before you now speaking these words: I accept your nomination for Vice President of the United States of America.”
