State investigation finds Andrew Brown’s death ‘tragic’ but ‘justified’

At a news conference on Tuesday District Attorney Andrew Womble announced that no officer involved in Andrew Brown’s death would be criminally charged with any crimes. He also said that although Mr. Brown’s death was ‘tragic,’ it was justified. According to the investigation, officers were justified in the use of deadly force while attempting to serve Mr. Brown with an arrest warrant.

The three deputies involved have been on leave while four others who were at the scene have been reinstated after police said they didn’t fire their weapons.

Womble said the State Bureau of Investigation found Brown “drove recklessly and endangered the officers” and “used his vehicle as a deadly weapon” while attempting to resist arrest.
