The United States Women’s Soccer Team was eliminated from the World Cup competition in the round of sixteen this weekend, and Donald Trump is blaming Joe Biden and the “wokeness” of the team for the loss.
The defending champions lost to Sweden on penalty kicks 5-4, with Megan Rapinoe one of three team members who missed the net and ended a long and impressive career on a disappointing note.
The elimination in the Round of 16 was the first in team history.
Sweden has never won a major international tournament, either the World Cup or the Olympics.
During the 2019 Women’s World Cup, Rapinoe said, “I’m not going to the f‑‑‑ing White House” if the team won, which it eventually did.
“We’re not going to be invited,” Rapinoe, a progressive LGBTQ activist, added at the time. “I doubt it.”
In 2022, President Biden awarded Rapinoe with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She was the first soccer player to win the nation’s highest civilian award.
