North Carolina Rep Madison Cawthorn called Ukrainian President Zelensky a “thug” and the Ukrainian government “evil,” as recorded on video at a town hall in Asheville — according to Karl Rove, a Republican strategist who said Cawthorn’s views “don’t reflect the Republican opinion.”
A local television station published the clip on Thursday.
During the Trump administration, Republicans tried to paint Ukraine as corrupt and involved in corruption with the Biden family.
In 2017, Cawthorn posted on Instagram about his visit to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler’s retreat in the German Alps. Cawthorn commented that seeing “the vacation house of the Führer” had been on his “bucket list.”
